Athletes seeking selection in the 2024 Victorian State Teams for the Australian Youth Beach Volleyball Championships are invited to register for the selection trials in October and November at the South Melbourne Beach Courts by completing the registration form on Volleyball Victoria's revSPORT platform.
Athletes are trialing for selection to the Youth Beach State Team Program. Athletes selected to travel will compete in the Australian Youth Beach Volleyball Championships in Coolangatta, QLD, March 17-21, 2024.
All three trials are open. Athletes are encouraged to attend as many as possible. Attendance at one trial is the minimum requirement for selection.
U14: Must be born in 2011
U15: Must be born in 2010
U16: Must be born in 2009
U17: Must be born in 2008
U18: Must be born in 2007
TRIAL INFORMATION: All athletes that would like to trial must register online and complete the Athlete Agreement. The trial fee of $55.00 must be paid prior to the commencement of trials.

Athlete preferences act as guide for coaches, preferences may be considered but final decisions are made by Volleyball Victoria appointed coaches.
Sun protection is recommended for all athletes. Please bring, hats, sunglasses, long-sleeved shirts, sunscreen, water bottles, shade etc.
Volleyball Victoria encourages athletes to wear general athletic attire at trials. Athletes are not to wear ANY National, State (any state), Academy uniforms at these selection trials. Athletes will be asked to change if they wear any items from previous National, State or Academy teams.
Coaches will be in attendance at the trials. It is expected that all athletes attend the above trials. If you cannot attend one of the above trials, it is expected that you advise the Program Manager directly in writing. Michael.Stevens@volleyballvictoria.org.au
SELECTION PROCESS:
TRIALS > SQUAD SELECTION > TEAMS & SHADOW ATHLETE SELECTIONS > TEAMS TRAVEL TO AYBVC
Victorian State Team squads will be selected from the trialing athletes. Squads will train for multiple sessions together before being selected to teams and shadow athlete positions. Shadow Athletes will continue up until the Championships. Teams will travel to AYBVC.
As per Volleyball Australia’s regulation, team
U14: 4 players on court
U15: 3 players on court
U16 / U17 / U18: 2 players on court
The number of teams selected per age group is at Volleyball Victoria’s discretion and will depend on the number and quality of trialing athletes.
SHADOW ATHLETES
Any athletes that are not selected in a team to travel to AYBVC in Coolangatta will assume the role of a shadow athlete. Shadow Athletes do not travel to AYBVC but continue to train with their appropriate squad and may be given the opportunity to step into a team if an athlete withdraws from a team or is unable to participate in the championships for any reason.
Shadow Athletes are an important part the State Team Program and provide the individuals the opportunity to develop their volleyball in a high level environment. Shadow Athletes are only charged the squad acceptance fee. In the event that a shadow athlete is elevated into a team they would be subject to the full levy.
TRAINING
Trainings will be held at South Melbourne Beach or the State Volleyball Centre indoor courts on either Saturdays or Sundays. Training starts immediately after trials and runs until the championships in March with a break over the Christmas Holidays. Alternate arrangements will be made in the event of inclement weather. State Team training for a AYBVC is compulsory and not optional. Attending state team training should take priority over other sporting commitments.
PROGRAM INFORMATION: The estimated levy for 2024 will be between $1,900-$2,400 per athlete.
All athletes selected in the squads must pay a $300 squad acceptance fee in the week following selection to confirm their position in the squad. The $300 is non-refundable and will be deducted from the overall Athlete Levy should you be selected to compete at the AYBVC.
Referee Accreditations:
All athletes selected to compete at AYBVC are required to hold a minimum Level 1 Volleyball Australia Refereeing Accreditation. This cost is not covered in the athlete levy.
Athlete Eligibility: To be eligible for 2024 Victorian State Team selection, players must have a current player registration with Volleyball Victoria. This cost is not covered in the athlete levy.
UNIFORMS
Uniform items will be the same as 2023. Uniforms and tracksuits for all Victorian programs will change in 2025.
Uniform cost is not covered in the athlete levy.
