SELECTION PROCESS:
TRIALS > SQUAD SELECTION > TRAVELLING ATHLETES & SHADOW ATHLETE SELECTIONS > TRAVELLING TEAMS SELECTION > TEAMS TRAVEL TO AYBVC
Victorian State Team squads will be selected from the trialing athletes. Squads will train for multiple sessions together before being selected to teams and shadow athlete positions. Shadow Athletes will continue up until the Championships. Teams will travel to AYBVC.
As per Volleyball Australia’s regulations, teams will be as follows:
U14: 4 players on court
U15: 3 players on court
U16 / U17 / U18: 2 players on court
The number of teams selected per age group is at Volleyball Victoria’s discretion and will depend on the number and quality of trialing athletes.
There will be no more than 5 teams per age group for U16, U17 & U18.
SHADOW ATHLETES
Any athletes that are not selected in a team to travel to AYBVC in Coolangatta will assume the role of a shadow athlete. Shadow Athletes do not travel to AYBVC but continue to train with their appropriate squad and may be given the opportunity to step into a team if an athlete withdraws from a team or is unable to participate in the championships for any reason. Volleyball Victoria will always seek greater development opportunities for shadow athletes.
Shadow Athletes are an important part the State Team Program and provide the individuals the opportunity to develop their volleyball in a high level environment. Shadow Athletes are only charged the squad acceptance fee. In the event that a shadow athlete is elevated into a team they would be subject to the full levy.
TRAINING
Trainings will be held at South Melbourne Beach or the State Volleyball Centre indoor courts on either Saturdays or Sundays. Training starts immediately after trials and runs until the championships in March with a break over the Christmas Holidays. Alternate arrangements will be made in the event of inclement weather. State Team training for a AYBVC is compulsory and not optional. Attending state team training should take priority over other sporting commitments.
PROGRAM INFORMATION: The estimated levy for 2025 is expected to be between $2,000-$2,500 per athlete.
All athletes selected in the squads must pay a $300 squad acceptance fee in the week following selection to confirm their position in the squad. The $300 is non-refundable and will be deducted from the overall Athlete Levy should you be selected to compete at the AYBVC.
Referee Accreditations:
All athletes selected to compete at AYBVC are required to hold a minimum Level 1 Volleyball Australia Refereeing Accreditation. This cost is not covered in the athlete levy.
Athlete Eligibility: To be eligible for 2025 Victorian State Team selection, players must have a current Gold U21 membership with Volleyball Victoria. This cost is not covered in the athlete levy.
UNIFORMS
Uniform cost is not covered in the athlete levy. Uniform ordering will commence after Squad Selection.
