Volleyball Victoria welcomes Shannon Lennie
On behalf of the Board, I am happy to advise that Shannon Lennie has joined the Office as Member Services Coordinator. Shannon arrives with valuable experience utilising the SportsTG platform in previous roles and will replace Victoria Ellis during her maternity leave.
Shannon is spending time alongside Victoria during her induction and we hope to maintain a consistent level of member services with as little disruption as possible.
If you have any membership or affiliation enquiries, please don’t hesitate to contact the Office, 03 9794 0009.
2019 Membership and Affiliation
As advised in late December, the Board has confirmed membership, affiliation, and State League fees typically reflecting the annual increase of costs represented in the Consumer Price Index. Volleyball Victoria will retain the categories of membership that have successfully supported continued growth of more than 10% enjoyed in recent years. The 2018 target of 10% growth was achieved in advance of the membership year concluding on 31 March.
The membership information has been updated and is available online, 2019 Volleyball Victoria Membership.
Renewals for 2019 affiliation will shortly open with the membership period commencing 1 April. Updated information will be available on the Volleyball Victoria website outlining the membership types and cost structure for affiliates. This includes an update on the recognition and benefits for affiliates who deliver Spikezone.
Inaugural Affiliate Congress
Volleyball Victoria has determined to expand and diversify the delivery of traditional courses on the weekend prior to the commencement of State League. In conjunction with Victoria University, Volleyball Victoria is excited to present the Inaugural Affiliate Congress. The Congress is an evolution of the 2018 Coaches Professional Development Day, incorporates the annual pre-season information session for State League, and provides a forum to support affiliates.
The Affiliate Congress will provide the opportunity for the volleyball community to attend information and education presentations on a variety of relevant topics. Four streams will be on offer, each with a different focus, including: Coach Professional Development, Affiliate Presidents, State League Delegates, and State League Referees.
This is a substantial undertaking, acknowledging the time and effort volunteers commit to their Clubs and Associations, and is subsidised by Volleyball Victoria to ensure accessibility and affordability. We thank Victoria University for their considerable support and look forward to offering more opportunities through the University and in further supporting affiliates.

2018 Strategic Measures and a look ahead
Participation and membership continued their growth trend with 2018 membership exceeding the 10% growth target. Volleyball Victoria remains engaged with key stakeholders, including the appointment of Grant Hyde to the Board of Volleyball Australia. The completion of the State Facilities Strategy has been received well by the both State Government and numerous local governments to whom it has been presented. School participation and event opportunities continue to expand and improve, with Volleyball Victoria in consultation to determine an appropriate response to the relocation of the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup.
State teams improved on benchmark performances of the previous years, and numerous Victorians have been selected to national underage and open squads in playing, coaching, and officiating capacities. Volleyball Victoria enjoys a position of strong financial sustainability with a breakeven result for 2018 expected and has met current compliance with governance regulations and now focuses on affiliate capacity building.
Change will be a recurring theme in 2019; work is already underway to modernise the Social competitions administered by Volleyball Victoria, as announced above, the inaugural Affiliate Congress has been scheduled, impacted by the move of AVSC our school partners are in need of new events to retain much needed participation opportunities, State League will be subject to review and recommendation by a Working Group to give direction to a sustainable, successful competition, and there will be turnover in personnel as Victoria Ellis commences maternity leave.
