Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships
It seems a very long time ago now, but Volleyball Victoria only this month returned from Queensland having competed the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships (AJBVC) held on the iconic Coolangatta Beach.
Placing second in the Andy Burdin Shield, the Volleyball Victoria Delegation won one Gold, two Silver, and three Bronze Medals.
Volleyball Victoria sent 44 athletes across U15, U16, U17, and U18 divisions. The Championships were set to encompass a range of new initiatives, including an Australian Beach Volleyball Tour event (ABVT), the newly conceived Australian Beach Volleyball Schools Cup, and FIVB World Tour event, unfortunately, only the ABVT and AJBVC were able to proceed following international travel bans and school responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gold Medal – U15 Girls Sakura Nakadair / Gemma McNamara / Emily Retschko / Hannah Mustovic
Bronze Medal – U15 Boys James Kay / Kurtis Lavery / Angus Apps / Thomas O’Reilly / Luca Smith
Bronze Medal – U16 Girls Sienna Arena / Ella Mustovic
Silver Medal – U16 Boys Callen Fowler / Ben Carroll
Silver Medal – U17 Girls Talia Samuel / Evangeline La Terra
Bronze Medal – U18 Boys Joey Rodda / Dallas Kuipers

Annual General Meeting
As previously advised, the Committee has determined to postpone the Annual General meeting until such time that Volleyball Victoria can comply with Government restrictions on non-essential travel and community gatherings.
Since this original advice, as attached, Consumer Affairs Victoria have advised a three-month postponement for all required meetings, effective from 31 May.
Awards & Recognition
Nominations have closed and recommendations have been made regarding Annual Awards, Distinguished Service, and Life Membership, the Committee has not yet determined how these will be acknowledged and further advice will be provided to the community as it becomes clearer.
Message to the Volleyball Victoria community
On a more general note, the Committee and Office are working hard to manage the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on our activities. The Government support programs are expected to have a significant positive impact on our ability to return to business as normal when the time comes, and we hope to be relevant for as many of our community who need us when that time comes.
Importantly, we want members to be able to get back on court as soon as they wish. We want to be as relevant, as attractive, and as accessible as the community needs us to be when they need us. But these are trying times and individually we will all face bigger issues than when our next game will commence; Volleyball Victoria wants to play our part, when the time comes.
