Resumption of Play – PLEASE NOTE, AN UPDATE FROM VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT REGARDING RESTRICTIONS IN REGIONAL VICTORIA DUE MONDAY, 3 AUGUST.
Volleyball is slowly resuming across Victoria with several Affiliates getting underway with junior training and planned competition. It is gladdening news that we can finally report on-court activities.
We ask that any Affiliate planning a resumption provides advice to Shannon Lennie, Member Services Coordinator, email firstname.lastname@example.org and if you require any direction regarding the Return to Play Plan, please don’t hesitate to make contact.
In regard existing and new memberships, Volleyball Victoria would like to provide the following advice for clarification. Activity in any Volleyball Victoria-endorsed Affiliate activity requires the appropriate level of membership. In normal times, the membership period commences from 1 April and expires 31 March the following year and membership can be obtained at any time until 1 January. From 1 January a new membership is recognised but extended into the following membership year, effectively a 15-month membership.
As previously advised, if you have taken out a membership but have been unable to take to the court at all since that time up until March 2021, Volleyball Victoria in the first instance, would seek to credit your membership for the next year.
In addition, Volleyball Victoria will consider discounted memberships in 2021 for 2020 members who have been severely limited in their opportunities. It is not practical for Volleyball Victoria to attempt to manage individual pro rata arrangements where we don’t know if an individual normally plays one season, two or four seasons in one year.
Enquiries regarding membership can be directed to email@example.com.
Vale – Barry Maguire
It is with considerable sadness that we join Monash University Volleyball Club in expressing our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Barry Maguire, a highly respected member of the volleyball community who passed away suddenly this week.
Speaking personally of my time at Volleyball Victoria, Barry was a passionate, engaged, and productive contributor to the sport. Most recently assisting with a review of State League, providing his vast experience and informed direction to a sustainable future competition framework. His preparedness to give of himself was boundless and he was a volunteer extremely generous with his time.
Barry was a stalwart servant of the sport whose presence will be dearly missed.
The Office has commenced a process of contacting Affiliates to undertake guided conversations regarding plans for a resumption to train and play. The contact will include open-ended discussions regarding other priorities and will also seek to garner opinions regarding the next Volleyball Victoria Strategic Plan.
In addition, Volleyball Victoria have requested support from Vicsport to assist in developing resources to ensure Affiliate adherence to the legislated Victorian Government Child Safe Standards and the supplementary National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. This is critical and important work that will include a survey of Affiliates awareness, understanding, implementation, and how we can better support.
