Australian Volleyball Schools Cup

Volleyball Australia has made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Australian Volleyball Schools Cup.  Faced with so much uncertainty, this outcome is not surprising.

Volleyball Victoria expresses sympathy to the many students who will miss this final opportunity to conclude their school volleyball careers in what has become the premier school sport event in Australia.

Australian Volleyball – Super League

Further to the advice above, the 2020 Australian Volleyball League and Super League has also been cancelled.  The existing Victorian restrictions and the hard border closure by the Queensland Government was always going to present challenges for participation by the Melbourne Vipers.

A recent survey of Vipers’ personnel, conducted prior to the most recent restrictions across Victoria, indicated support for the program to proceed.  It is disappointing this opportunity cannot be realised, but these are considerable factors out of Volleyball Australia’s control.

Community Sport Sector COVID-19 Survival Package

Volleyball Victoria would like to thank the Victorian Government for their support through the Community Sport Sector COVID-19 Survival Package.  Volleyball Victoria received welcome funding through the scheme and appreciates the ongoing support of the Victorian Government.

The Victorian Government is supporting state sport associations, state sport and recreation bodies and regional academies get through the pandemic with support from the Community Sport Sector COVID-19 Survival Package.

Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence, announced more than $12.7 million in grants have been approved from the Government’s $40 million package for the sport and active recreation sector.  The Minister said, “These grants will provide vital funds for the organisations that support grassroots clubs and associations across the state – the bodies that make it possible for millions of Victorians to play the sports they love”, adding “This much needed support will help keep the doors open of our state sporting associations and keep the many people they employ in work”.

Affiliate Survey – Reminder
