At this time of year, the General Manager’s update would typically be recounting the successes of State League, reporting the progress of the Volleyball Victoria delegation at the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships (scheduled this year for Bendigo), and promoting the imminent Victorian Summer Series and Australian Beach Volleyball Tour.

Such is the year that 2020 has been, the very prospect of seeing four players, two on each side the net, spread along an expanse of South Melbourne Beach represents not only the most participation we will have seen in over six months, but also a most welcome sight.

There is little likelihood indoor volleyball will resume in any substantial capacity before the end of 2020, but the prospect that volleyball may be able to resume this summer on the beach is a positive portent to the entire volleyball community; that the sport will prevail and we all have something to which we can look forward.

Resumption of Training & Play

Volleyball Victoria is completing a review of the latest restrictions with an expectation the revised Return to Play Plan will be applicable to both regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne respecting their diverse guidelines.

The review should be completed within the week and available to support Affiliate resumption as restrictions allow.

For more information, Affiliates can contact Shannon Lennie, Member Services Coordinator, co memberships@volleyballvictoria.org.au.

Affiliate Portal

During the shutdown, Volleyball Victoria has been busily developing a marketing portal for the benefit of Affiliates.  The portal, delivered by our partners at Skoop, has three functions:

  1. To provide a platform for the production, storage, and distribution of Spikezone Welcome Kits to registered participants in Affiliate programs;
  2. To house a range of current and to be developed branded marketing materials, such as professionally designed and printed program flyers; &
  3. As a shopfront for a handful of promotional materials often requested by Affiliates when conducting school programs or participating in community days, including sticker sheets, colour-in activities, and exclusive equipment

Volleyball Victoria will be undertaking consultation with a range of Affiliates seeking input into the resources that would be valued on the portal.

For more information, Affiliates can contact Shannon Lennie, Member Services Coordinator, co memberships@volleyballvictoria.org.au.

Committee Update

Annual General Meeting

The Committee continues to assess the viability of conducting the Annual General Meeting for the 2019 year.  Following an earlier extension granted by Consumer Affairs Victoria, Volleyball Victoria now has permission to conduct the Meeting through the use of technology, rather than wait until restrictions ease.

A determination will be made by the Committee shortly and advice to the membership will follow according to usual rules.

Affiliate Survey – Reminder

Affiliates are reminded that the Office has commenced a process of guided conversations regarding plans for a resumption to train and play.  The contact will include open-ended discussions regarding other priorities and will also seek to garner opinions regarding the next Volleyball Victoria Strategic Plan; input into this Plan is critical and Affiliates are strongly encouraged to have their say.

The Survey can be found here.
