Melbourne Vipers’ Men

Match 1: 19-25, 28-30, 25-22, 26-24,15-10

Vipers lose 2-3

Our first travel weekend, will go down as a missed opportunity on Day 1. We managed to establish early though Jose Martinez and Nick Boesten. This allowed for our game to really flow with Martin Kaufer, Ashby Smith, Mitch Broom and Ben Abbott have some real success at the wings. Managing to take the first two sets against Canberra. The whole week we had spoken about how they have been one of the two benchmarks for the competition over the last 5 years and no surprise they managed to take the third set. Set 4 they started strongly, however, we managed to peg it back. We gave ourselves a few match points through some brilliant blocking. Canberra, however, were good enough to take their chance and win the set 26-24. Then from there they took over with a 15-10 win in the 5th.

Match 2: 25-14, 25-16, 25-21

Vipers lose 0-3

Day 2 presented us with another challenge. However, Canberra came back, served and attacked well. We tried to find a few answers, however, we quickly were facing a 2-0 deficit. Coming into the third set, Martin, Johnny and Ashby really stood tall in attack with Linford finding some real quality looks at the court. It was all in vein as Canberra managed to defend our attack and attack back.

We look forward to travelling to QLD to play the Pirates who have won the last 3 AVL titles as a real challenge and something we are really excited for.
